DESCRIPTION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE

I work with individuals and couples from a variety of therapeutic perspectives. I have a special interest in working with people who want to incorporate mindfulness practice into their daily life and their work in therapy. Particular areas of focus and experience include working with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, substance abuse, spiritual issues, identity issues, and working with LGBT people.

Generally speaking, I believe that most problems follow from holding on to outdated ways to understand oneself and relate to others. My goal is to help clients gain a clearer sense of who they truly are so that they can make better choices and undertake more skillful actions in the present moment.

I bring to the therapeutic relationship compassion, insight, a sense of humor, and most importantly, a willingness to support and stick with clients as they work to achieve their goals for therapy.

VIPASSANA/MEDITATION BACKGROUND

My meditation background includes a regular vipassana sitting practice and a number of retreats from five to 27 days. Ive completed Spirit Rocks two-year Community Dharma Leader Program and the two-year Dedicated Practitioners Program. I teach beginning and intermediate meditation classes and co-lead a weekly sitting group in San Francisco.

RELEVANT CLINICAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

I have a Masters Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from San Francisco State University. I have been a therapist in private practice for 15 years. Prior to becoming a therapist, I was an attorney.
