DESCRIPTION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE
The intimacy that arises in listening and speaking truth is only possible if we can open to the vulnerability of our own hearts. Breathing in, contacting the life that is right here, is our first step. Once we have held ourselves with kindness, we can touch others in a vital and healing way. -Tara Brach
My practice emphasizes mindfulness, genuine communication, compassion, healthy relationships, and creating an authentic life expression. I utilize mindfulness in combination with several different types of psychotherapy practice, including relational, existential, humanistic, gestalt, and non-dual therapies. I welcome people who are working with relationship and communication issues, spiritual integration, anxiety and depression, and issues around self-esteem, isolation, and meaning. My style is warm, thoughtful, and interactive. I have a deep understanding of personal struggles and a great faith in the process of psychotherapy, based on my years of witnessing people change and grow through the process of counseling.
I have attended over 25 residential retreats. The wisdom of these traditions has opened my heart to myself and others in ways that I previously could never have imagined. My decision to become a therapist arose out of the realizations brought home to me while on meditation retreats.
RELEVANT CLINICAL TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching the Spirit Rock Teen and Middle School Meditation Series for eight years. Both my masters degree in Integral Counseling Psychology and my PhD in East-West Psychology are from California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). For both degrees and additional trainings I focused my studies on various psychotherapies in the context of mindfulness and compassion.
