DESCRIPTION OF CLINICAL PRACTICE
Each individual is the ultimate teacher to themselves. I use an integrative and interactive approach to therapy where I view the therapeutic relationship as teacher-student, and student-teacher. I act as a witness to the process and offer guidance and techniques to help one attain the life they want to live with ease and wisdom. Different modalities and techniques I use are: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing); SE (Somatic Experiencing); EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique); Existential/Spiritual Exploration; and Systemic/Systems.
VIPASSANA MEDITATION BACKGROUND
A significant part of my life was my time living in Asia. I finished my masters degree researching the impact of trauma, and the different approaches to heal from trauma from violent crime in SE Asia and the US. I was so impacted by my research abroad that I returned to Asia for many years. I spent one year in Nepal, India and Tibet, and then lived in Thailand for 7 years. My time in Asia formed a critical part of who I am and how I view the world and healing today. I use meditation in therapy to help one become the authentic self in all they do. I encourage reflection on how ones behavior and actions affect others, and how one's reaction and emotions, are a choice one makes based on their own beliefs. I believe in the mind- body connection, and as such, will recommend meditation, and encourage clients to rule out any medical conditions and recommend natural approaches to wellness when necessary.
