The SandPlay Experience

My integral approach weaves together the wisdom of mindfulness practices, contemplative psychotherapy, process oriented psychology, relational and depth psychology. For 30 years, I've specialized in working with couples and individuals experiencing challenges with relationships; grief and loss; major life transitions including mid-life and aging; illness or disability; career concerns; depression; LGBT issues; personal growth; creativity and spirituality. My work with couples draws from the Gottman approach, Compassionate Communication and Imago therapy. I also offer online dream consultations and groups.

For 30 years I've participated in numerous retreats in the U.S., Asia and Europe in the Theravaden and Mahayana traditions with various teachers including Jack Kornfield, Joseph Goldstein, H.H. The Dalai Lama, Pema Chodron, Ajhan Amaro, Ruth Denison. Ive also trained in the Zen tradition and ordained with Thich Nhat Hanh. While serving on the board of directors for Insight Santa Cruz, I collaborated with initiating the first Kalyana Mitta group (dharma friends), the Meditation Mentor program and the first Buddhist Peace Fellowship chapter in SC. I also founded the Asheville Community of Mindful Living.

I've been in private practice since 1989. After my masters in counseling, I earned a doctorate in East-West psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies while training at many training centers including The SF Jung Institute. For 17 years I taught psychology at John F. Kennedy University and the University of North Carolina.
